こんにちは。今日は熟語の問題です。It's an easy one, but also very common in the test!


Both the Director and his assistant were suprised to discover that they had grown up in areas close to _______.

(A) other
(B) another
(C) each another
(D) one another






答えは（D）です。前回のレッスンで「another, the other, other」の使い方が冠詞の使い方と同じだということを学びましたね。しかし、今日の問題は文法の問題ではなく、ただの熟語の問題です。この「One another」という熟語は日本語の「お互いに」と同じ意味です。これを「Each other」に言い換えられます。例えば、

They gave presents to one another.

OR

They gave presents to each other.

両方とも同じ意味です。もし選択肢の（C）が「each other」なら、それも使えます。
